TOMMIE CROZIER

Welcome to our site dedicated to the journey of an independent Winston Cup driver.

Tommie Crozier (from Roanoke, Virginia) is a former stock car driver who made his way to the Winston Cup series as an independent.

Crozier began racing in 1976. He raced in the Hobby Class, Street Stock, Limited Sportsman and Late Model Sportsman until making his Cup debut on September 16, 1984, driving the #85 Leonard Racing Pontiac for Bill Leonard at the Deleware 500 at Dover Motor Speedway. In that race, Crozier started 40th and finished 27th, battling overheating issues throughout the race.

As an independent racer in the mid-1980's, he contested eight Cup races across four seasons (1984, 1985, 1986 and 1989) piloting car numbers #85 and #65-Pontiac and a Chevrolet with a best finish of 15th. Competing in over 500 races, Tommie Crozier proved his dedication and love for the sport finishing in the top 5 numerous times and winning the 1983 Track Championship at Franklin County Speedway. Crozier competed at tracks including Victory Stadium, South Boston and Caraway Speedways. His Cup races brought him to tracks such as Pocono and Dover Motor Speedway.

Despite the challenges of limited funding and resources, Crozier showed competitiveness and perserverance. He continued to compete until 1999, when he chose to step away from racing to focus on raising his family. Crozier proudly served his community for over 38 years as a career firefighter with the Roanoke County Fire Department and then he worked for the Virgina Department of Emergency Management.

Tommie Crozier would like to recognize and thank the many people and sponsors who supported his racing career and helped make it possible. Their dedication, friendship and belief in him meant everything both on and off the track.
