Tommie Crozier made his debut in Winston Cup racing driving the #85 Pontiac. Crozier purchased the car from Ronnie Thomas, a friend and fellow independent racer from Christiansburg, Virginia. The Pontiac started as a Banjo Matthews chassis and was originally owned by Richard Childress Racing. Ronnie Thomas purchased the car in 1978 and raced it for many years until he sold it to Crozier in 1984 (pictures below from Ronnie Thomas racing era). Crozier ran this car for three seasons (1984, 1985 & 1986) before selling it to an individual in Salem, Virginia. Ronnie Thomas purchased the car back in 2017 and has since restored it to its as-raced condition.
The Pontiac has been driven by several other drivers throughout the years; Jabe Thomas, Bobby Allison, Richard Childress, Wendell Scott, Elmo Langley, Dick May, Lennie Pond, James Hylton, Bobby Wawak and Done Hume.
